LARKANA – The Ratodero police on Tuesday arrested a doctor alleged of passing on the HIV (human immunodeficiency viruses) to his patients in Larkana.
An official of the anti-quackery team, Dr Abdul Sami Rajpur had filed a complaint against the doctor Muzaffar Ghangharo last night; he is a government employee and also runs a private clinic.
Ghangharo, who is himself believed to be an HIV patient, was produced before a local court today following which his three-day physical remand was granted.
Larkana Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Siddique Noman confirmed that a first information report (FIR) was registered with Dr Rajpur as the complainant, Dawn News reported.
Disputing the allegations against him, Dr Muzaffar Ghanghar termed the case a “conspiracy” and said he was not aware of his own condition.
“The Sindh Healthcare Commission is conspiring against me. If I had known about [HIV/AIDS] then I would have sought treatment. I did not experience any pain,” he claimed.
Dr Sikander Memon, in-charge of the Aids Control Programme in Sindh, said a team will arrive in Ratodero next week to determine the causes behind the transmission of the HIV among the locals.
The residents of Larkana were shell-shocked when over 40 HIV-positive cases were reported across the district in recent days, with children as young as 16 months among the victims.
HIV is a virus that causes the deadly AIDS disease which has claimed millions of lives across the world.
